Well, "Situation Types" is a fairly specific term, so you may want to check your class notes once more. In the meantime, here's something that may help you out. The assignment is asking you to describe and explain the types of situations in which speakers use 'being' and 'becoming'. You could start by describing their distribution (where they can occur in a sentence), then talk about their function (what roles they play in a sentence), and then explain their meaning (what they express in those situations). For example, and this is just one of many examples you could use:
Present Participle: He is
being a fool. (Meaning,
acting like)
Present Participle: He is
becoming a fool. (Meaning,
changing into)
