Will: expresses volition
I
will like to thank you. (Incorrect)
'will' expresses volition: an action is required. The word 'like' is not an action, so it's not compatible with 'will'.
How come 'like' is not an action? 'Like' is a verb right? Aren't verbs actions? How do I know what's an action and what's not?
Is 'believe' an action?
What do these mean?
1. Would you believe it?
2. Will you believe it?
Thanks.

Re: Will: expresses volition
Verbs can be actions or states:
I am stupid.
This isn't an action; it sdescribes the way I am over time. 'I like coffee' doesn't describe an action, but how I feel about coffeee- drinking is the action.
