fail + Infinitive

Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me your opinion concerning the following sentences?

1.X-ray pattern failed to affirm this suggestion.
2.Hence m-toluenesulphonic acid fails to rearrange,
3.Stilbene fails to react with diazoacetic ester.
4.Gelatin and some of the protamins which do not contain tryptophan fail to respond to the test.

I would suggest for the first one:

1. The x-ray pattern failed to confirm this suggestion.

The others sound OK as English, though I haven't a clue about chemistry. ("Arrange" has double "r".)
