Generic or general
Which word will be more appropriate in this sentence? (Any other possible improvement will also be appreciated):
“Since I do not have time to write to each of you individually, I am sending you all a generic (or general?) response to your communications.”

According to an online dictionary, "generic" and "general" are synonyms. I personally would say "general" in this case.
