draw a line/far gone/farm out/feet on the ground/fill in/first thing fist
Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?
1. The law in this country draws a line between murder and manslaughter.
2. Can you draw the line between a lie and a fib?
draw a line 1. To think of as different.
3. He was so far gone by the time the doctor arrived, that nothing could be done to save his life.
far gone {adj. phr.} in a critical or extreme state.
4. Our teacher had too many test papers to read, so she farmed out half of them to a friend.
farm out{v.} 1. to have another person do (something) for you; send away to be done.
5. John has his feet on the ground; he knows he cannot learn everything at once.
feet on the ground{. phr.} an understanding of what can be done; sensible ideas
6. You should fill in all the blanks on a application for a job.
fill in {v.} 1. to write words needed in blanks; put in; fill.
7. The new boy didn't know the rules so Bob filled him in.
fill in (v) 2. {informal} to tell what you should know.
8. Study your lessons before you go out to play. First things first.
first thing first = other things must wait until the most important and necessary things are done.
Thank you for your efforts.
Regards,
V.

Re: draw a line/far gone/farm out/feet on the ground/fill in/first thing fist
I can see no error, except for a typo on sentence 6.
('an application' instead of 'a application')
I'd rephrase like this:
You should/shall/must fill in all the blanks on a job application form.
[I am not a teacher]

1. The law in this country draws a line between murder and manslaughter. I wouldn't use draw a line here. Makes a distinction is better.

draw a line 1. To think of as different. I wouldn't use draw a line here. Tell the difference is better.
