Default ‘any more than ’ used right?

He ,any more than Columbus,believed he had touched anything more than a part of east Asia.

I doubt 'any more than' being used properly here. What is your opinion, native speaker? Thank you.

i doubt 'any more than' is being used properly here. you are right. 'any more than' doesn't fit with the rest of the sentence, and neither does "anything more than".
