correct a sentence

Dear teachers,

Would you please tell me if my sentence is correct (grammar & style)? How would you formulate it?

Having discovered the states of the roads we drove on, they would rather we had rented a car than borrowed theirs.

it sounds good to me except the word "states". Should be "state".

2)a) When will you tell me about what I will / would have to do?


b) I wonder when he will finish school.


c) As long as you let me know when you WILL ARRIVE, I will come and meet you at the station. (wrong ?)



3) a) She is having a baby. (immediate future)
b) She is going to have a baby. (less immediate ?)



4) If I am as clever as you think, I should have been rich by now. (correct ?)

Would you have other examples of a mixed conditional type 1 + type 3 ?



5) a) If my father were not paying / didn’t pay my fees, I wouldn’t be studying here.

b) If my father had not paid my fees, I wouldn’t be studying here.

You could say :
Since (=because) I live in NY, I am used to noise and pollution.
Since I moved to NY, I have got used to n oise and pollution.

b) I have long been used to living alone.

c) As long as you let me know when you WILL ARRIVE, I will come and meet you at the station. (Though you could use the progressive form)



3) a) She is having a baby. (immediate future)
b) She is going to have a baby. (less immediate ?)


4) If I am as clever as you think, I should have been rich by now. (correct ?) The structure is correct, but this one sounds a bit weird:
If he's a clever as you think, he should have been able to do that. (This sounds better to me)

Would you have other examples of a mixed conditional type 1 + type 3 ? That's basically it.

b) If my father had not paid my fees, I wouldn’t be studying here.

We can use the future in sentence 2c) because "when you will arrive" is a nominal clause ?

1) Would you please check my sentence ?

Rather than lose precious sleep discussing the mortgage facilities now, I think we should go to bed and talk about them in the morning. (correct ?)

2) Would you please give me examples where such verbs as sell, read, prove, (any more, please?) can be used in the active voice while having a passive meaning? What do we call that in grammar ?

e.g.: The Rhine doesn’t show. = The Rhine can’t be seen.

2) Advantage was believed to have been taken of John.
3) We believe advantage to have been taken of John.
