begginers summary needs help

I just started an English course and am writing a one page summary on Darwins theory of Natural Selection, any help would be great......thanks


In Charles Darwin’s theory “Natural Selection”, he describes Natural Selection as “the preservation of favorable variations and the rejection of injurious variations” (page 438). Weak variations would be destroyed and individuals with strengths or advantages have a stronger chance of surviving and procreating. The strongest changes would occur from within, not from outside changes such as climate. These changes, no matter how small, favor the individual so that they will be able to better adapt to their environment. These changes would be preserved and the natural selection process will be able to work freely, on its own, for improvement. No major changes, whether reproductive or physical, need to be implemented. All the slight differences between species alone are enough for natural selection to act upon.

Where man will only act on external or visible differences, nature focuses change in the specifics for the overall survival of the species. Because mans view is skewed he sees only the difference before him and not necessarily the specific changes or reasons that the change has occurred. We are not aware of all of natures laws of correlation, making even the slightest of changes may incur a change that was not anticipated.

Darwin states that he believes what natural selection can no do is “modify the structure of one species, without giving it any advantage, for the good of another species” (page 442). Although some changes may be passed down through heredity nature will not allow for all because then the chances for extinction would greatly rise. Humans can cause changes in species through their selections when breeding. Through natural selection are the best suited for survival. Darwin feels that “if a man can produce with a great result by methodical and unconscious means of selection, why not nature?” (page 439). The disadvantaged of the same species would eventually be eliminated, leaving the advantaged members to carry on.

Welcome to UE. Your basic problem is redundancy-- repeating the same ideas over in slightly different ways to stretch the essay to a full page, but making no forward progress with the thesis. Below, I have severely edited it down to its basic ideas. I am sure I have cut out parts that you feel necessary, but the edited version is a much better place to lead your essay up to, or continue your essay from:
