five basic patterns

"The five basic patterns fail to capture the significant intuition stated above that 'complements in intransitive sentences are semantically connected with subjects' while 'complements in transitive sentences are semantically related with objects'" Can anybody tell me why this is correct or incorret?

As an intransitive verb doesn't have an object, only a subject, then the complement has to be connected with the subject. ;-)
