I would never send a fancy-schmancy email to someone I didn't know, nor for business purposes. To be honest, I rarely tart up my emails at all anymore; too time-consuming and, as you mentioned, if the other person doesn't have the proper fonts installed, he'll miss half of my message. I actually miss the days when snail-mail was the preferred method of communicating... I loved using different colored stationery, gel pens with sparkly ink, etc.
