Question the optimality theory???

hi...i'm new and i just wanted to ask if anyone here knows anything about the optimality theory i searched the net but could not understand a thing. i'm studying for my masters degree and was asked to write an essay about it can you pleaaaaaaaase help me???

Thank you so much for your reply, and concern. I fortunately found a somewhat definition of the OT at wikipedia. com, it was useful. Thank you again.
