Hi all
I am having difficulty in understanding the difference between the complement and object.
If I say
She sent James the letter (letter is the D.O and James = I.O)
But if I say "She sent the letter to James"
What is the DO and I.O in this case?

'Letter' is the direct object.

Some traditional grammarians would say that 'James' is the indirect object. Most writers today would say that there is no indirect object in that sentence - James is the object of the preposition 'to'.
