There are a lot of job postings out there. Is there anywhere you can find information (maybe a list or something) about which employers are credible... or which employers are good to work for?

Not all employers are legit- there are plenty of horror stories out there. There are blacklists for some countries- Korean Black List

There's no official list and unofficial lists would just get filled with shills saying how wonderful places are.

Check schools out- do a whois search of their website, search on forums for people who have taught there, etc. If you are at all suspicious, don't accept the job. If they are evasive about basic questions or make unusual requests, then it's probably better to play safe.

There are plenty of good schools and ones that are OK, so it's far from all doom and gloom. The best protection you can have is to make sure you always have your fare out of there- that way you can walk out of a bad job. If you don't have this, then you are dependent and in a weak position.

It is also unfortunately true that some quite reasonable employers get savaged by teachers with unrealistic expectations, or by those have been dismissed for very good reason. When I was working full-time, I used to keep an eye out for the distorted stories told by some disgruntled ex-employees. I have little doubt that some of my responses and corrections were dismissed as fake.

Tdol has offered sound advice, especially about having your escape fare with you when you arrive. Be warned, but don't despair - there are a lot of good schools out there, and most of us manage to find them most of the time.

That's about what I expected. Do you know of any other "black lists" out there??

This one is no longer updated but has quite a lot of information: The TEFL Blacklist
If you google TEFL blacklist + name of country, you should find more.

No. Ask questions to weed them out.
