Which one is correct ?

Last year I went to London, which is ( or was ) the capital of UK ?

Is this sentence correct - regardless whether you know Cambridge exam or not ?

I have taken CAE exam many times and got either B or C but I will try again as I need A in writing and speaking

As an American, I would write

I have taken the CAE exam many times and got either a B or C.
