IMO, it means that Big Bird tries to avoid entering the political game.

Wasn't he the only one who could see Mr. Snuffleumpagus, the elephant? I never thought about him flying. He may have been able to, between camera apparances. Good question.

Yes, he was the only one around when Snuffleumpagus was around and no one else believed he existed.

There's no way a bird that big can fly.
