Curious about Word Origins
While reading a book about life in 14th Century Europe, I read the Latin phrase "Deus Vult" which means "God wills it".
I was wondering if there is a connection between this phrase and the word "default" which could have a similar, although non-religious meaning.
Re: Curious about Word Origins
I see your logic but the Online Etymology Dictionary shows that "default" goes back to the 12th century and stems from the Latin "defallita". Of course, it's possible that word came from your quoted phrase!
