Hi: I found two books dealing with the development of English with different titles: The Story of English vs The Stories of English. What's the difference between the single and plural forms of "story"? Linguistically speaking, which one covers more filed of discussion?
Thank you.

To me it sounds as follows

The story of English: story of the development of the English language over the centuries.
The stories of English: two possible options, i.e.
1. Stories/Tales related to English as a language and possibly its development.
2. The story of the development of English as a language but from different perspectives and therefore according to different research angles.

Hope it helps.
