Hello,
I want to ask you in our essay if we can use the word "remember" to attract the reader's attention or perhaps to remind him.

For example:

.............Mr.Darcy thought that Jane was indifferent that is why he took Mr.Bingley away from Jane, remember /you might remember Charlotte's advice to Elizabeth that Mr.Bingley did not know Jane's disposition as Elizabeth did .....

Could you please tell if the use of remember is correct and formal?

Thank you in advance,
Best regards,

No, it isn't. You should not use it. If you are writing an essay for a teacher, you are meant to assume that they know the work you are referring to. In fact, it could be considered rude implying that the essay marker doesn't remember parts of the novel.

If you want to make a link, you could say something like, "that is why he took Mr.Bingley away from Jane. This reminds us of Charlotte's advice to Elizabeth that Mr.Bingley did not know Jane's disposition as Elizabeth did (p. xxx).
