[Grammar] adjective VS. adverb

He made the garden beautiful. [This is a correct grammatical sentence.]
He made the garden beautifully. [Is this a possible sentence? Why is it correct or incorrect?]

The garden became beautiful as a result of his work.

The process of the making it so was not done "beautifully." In fact, it was probably often sweaty, dirty work.

I think the problem you have is with your verb choice. You could say

He did the garden up beautifully (for their party).
He made the garden beautiful (by planting new daffodils and daisies).

I don't see anything wrong with the verb.
Consider the following situations:
A: Wow! Nice flowers you have planted. What a pleasant smell they've got.
B: You really mean it?
C: Yeah! You've made it beautiful.

A: He's such a nice and tidy guy.
B: Yeah! We also ask him to do the gardening every year.
A: Just look! how beautifully he has made ours.
B: Fabulous!

He has changed it in a way so that now it is beautiful. He made it beautiful. How beautiful he has made ours!
