[Vocabulary] Sorry about or Sorry for?

HIII, I'D LIKE TO ASK YOU SOMETHING:
It would be more correct to say...

I'm sorry about what happened to you.
or
I'm sorry for what happened to you.

or would be both correct?

P.S: I'm spanish, my english isn't perfect, so sorry.

I have a few pieces of advice for your future posts:

- Please don't post in capitals. On the internet, that is like shouting.
- Remember to capitalise proper nouns (Spanish, English).

The answer to your question is that you will hear both. However, I prefer to say "I am/was sorry to hear about what happened to you". Some people will say that "I am sorry for" means that you are taking responsibility for what happened and are personally apologising. It can mean that but I don't think it always means that.
