Does "Old age is sad." make sense? Or does one have to say "Being old is sad."?

Thanks.

The two sentences have different meanings.

Old age is sad means you don't expect happiness in that period.
Being old is said means the speaker laments the passing of youth.

Or does one have to say "Being old is sad."? No, you don't have to say that. "Old age" means "Being old".

Thanks.

Hello, Jasmin.

Sadly, General Charles de Gaulle was right when he said:

"OLD AGE IS A SHIPWRECK."

***** Thank you *****

I'm sure that being advanced in age brings some benefits, too. ;-)

I think you could switch the definitions without contradiction.

***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Hello, Rover.

(1) That's great. As the Spanish put it so beautifully, we

older persons are in our "third age." So it's nice that we

are given some privileges.

(2) On a more serious note:

This is a language website, so I have to stay away from politics.

But maybe I shall be allowed to report that some Americans feel that

your beautiful country is a bit TOO generous to its residents.

(4) I hear that my city will raise the "senior citizen" rate in about two

years.

***** THANK YOU *****
