I tried to get into 'My posts' five times just now and failed five times (and each time I waited more than 20 seconds
!). Every time these words appeared:
This forum requires that you wait 20 seconds between searches. Please try again in 20 seconds.
I don't know why this 'requirement' is set. It is doing nothing except causing inconvenience.
Hoping the moderators or someone else could help remove these barriers. Thank you very much.
As I understand it, the 20-second time limit is there to slow spambots who will try to do automated searches. It's a fairly common limit in forums as it reduces the amount of activity they can do, while most humans don't search at that rate.
They cause so much trouble, and so many things have to be set to try to reduce their impact.![]()
I don't mind waiting for 20 seconds. The problem is that each time after I waited more than 20 seconds I still couldn't get into my own posts and this repeated five times in a row and in the end I wasn't able to get in and had to give up searching. So I found the rule upsetting.
Later I had to first get into 'ask a teacher' and take a long time to find that post of my own and get into it.
Thank you again for replying.
I am honestly not sure about what was happening with my posts. I have alerted Red5 to this thread to see what he says.
I can't really add much to what's already been said.
This is the only time in nearly 10 years or running this site that anyone has had this problem. This makes me think that it must be something to do with the individual browser/computer setup. Could anything be making additional requests for the search page when/before you click the link?
