Reputation?

According to the FAQ, I can give someone else Reputation points by clicking on the reputation icon against their post and adding a comment.

Unfortunately. the only reputation (legal scales/balance) icons I can see are in the headers of my own posts!

Where are the icons for giving others a reputation?

That puzzled me at first. I think that must have been discontinued. It's being 'liked' that adds to our reputation now. I think.

ps. ( a minute later) Wrong again! I appear to have fewer reputation points than I do posts which have been liked. So, I join you in awaiting the answer.

Were they ever worth anything? What was the point of them?

The User Reputation functionality is switched off as we've had problems in the past with people voting against other members out of spite etc. However, I'm not sure why the option still shows...

I didn't spot this post before, as it is not directly related to "like/thanks" and, having read the original post, as an "information only item", I wouldn't have thought of earmarking it as a subscribed thread.

I thought the green square icons at the top right of each posting indicated the User's Reputation. If the function has been turned off, the green squares are presumably now meaningless, as fivejedjon says, and should also be switched off.

What I can't understand is why, if the facility is disabled, the "legal balance" symbol related to reputation shows up on the poster's own posts, but not those of others and why, on clicking the scales icon, the reason for the "reputation" in the comments section appears invariably to be "thanked post" and not all thanked posts appear to add to reputation!

Very confusing!

I can see the icons in all posts- strange. Maybe the next software update will sort it out.

I can understand why posters with only one green square would be upset by not being able to enhance their "reputations". By the same token, I don't think it would be fair to strip the reputations from those posters who have lots of squares. It's a pity it had to be turned off.

5jj, I guess the point of them was that if you write good informative posts, your reputation goes up. It's like star charts for kiddies. I don't know how it worked - I thought it was somehow related to the number of posts you'd made.

Good point. Individuals can disable it if they like in the control panel- I switched mine off.

I just worked out how to remove the (now redundant) reputation icons from posts. This confusing issue should now be resolved. :)
