I have noticed that in the "Similar Threads" section all forums are listed. I think it could be a slight improvement if Members' Area were excluded from this to leave more space for better matches. I'm glad if someone clicks a link leading to one of my silly verses, but I don't think it's very useful for someone trying to understand a linguistic issue.
BC has made a good point.
I know my follow-up suggestion would mean work for someone, but if some of the titles in the FAQ section could be changed, they might crop up more frequently, and usefully, in the 'Similar Threads' section.
I am not sure how customisable the feature is, but will get it looked into.
Titles- suggestions?
Sorry - I should have checked before I wrote - most of the threads in the FAQs do have reasonable titles.
I was, perhaps thinking of a different point. It's not really connected with BC's original point, but is, I think, not irrelevant. I sometimes want to suggest to somebody who has posted a question that has cropped up many times before, but which does not bring up a 'similar Threads' section, that they try searching. However, when I have tried this for myself to see if it helps, I often get the message: "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms. The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : ...."
I find it quite difficult to search for threads/posts on some topics. I know I am fairly inept at this sort of thing, but I am sure many new members are in the same boat.
I don't know if anything can be done about this, but I thought it worth mentioning.
This is a case for tags- I add them to things like whichth so I can find them again by searching tags. The search is limited a bit and excludes common words. If someone searched the entire forum for 'the'; it would take up a lot of processing time. I have added things like modals to tags, so we can add common words there.
