Problems with (new) mobile version
I logged in on my iPhone this morning and got a new Mobile Version of the forum. Unfortunately, it's pretty much unusable. All the text is squished into one huge long thin column which appears either on the left or right hand margins. There is one word per line!
When I finally managed to get into an actual thread inside Ask a Teacher (more by luck than judgement), I discovered I can no longer "Reply with Quote" and there is no Like button. The little star towards the bottom, which was unlabelled and I assumed logically would be "Like", turned out to be "Unsubscribe".
The back button doesn't take me back just one screen, it takes me back to the beginning of a thread, but no further.
I spend quite a lot of time using this on my iPhone so I really hope all these problems will be ironed out soon. I won't be able to use it outside the house until they are.
Thanks!
Re: Problems with (new) mobile version
Hi, sorry about that. I've disabled the automatic delivery of the mobile style now, and enabled the ability for users to select which style they want (bottom-left of the forum footer).
Re: Problems with (new) mobile version
Fantastic. All sorted and working fine on my iPhone now. Thank you.
Re: Problems with (new) mobile version
I wish I could use the mobile version on Symbian OS.
I also wish you wouldn't consider this wish immoderate
Re: Problems with (new) mobile version
I don't- let's wait to see what the webmaster has to say on the practicalities of the issue.
Re: Problems with (new) mobile version
Sorry we don't support that system since we're unable to test changes on it. The current mobile style is a standard style that comes with the vBulletin software and we don't make changes to it.
However, we are hoping to release official UsingEnglish.com apps for both iPhone and Android soon.

True, life is full of things we have to put up with. Thanks for replying anyway.

So true. I have to put up with reading posts about things that are completely alien to me. I know a little about aspirated plosives and counterfactual conditionals, but 'mobile style', 'Symbian OS', 'vBulletin software', 'Android', and 'apps' are as meaningful to me as Chinese symbols. I have to confess that I don't even know what an iPhone is () - though I have heard of it!

You're not too old, Jed :)
My 81-year-old dad is making play lists on his iPad so he can listen to his music the way he wants to. So proud of him!
But until you get your iPhone, I won't ask you to play Words with Friends with me!

Your dad's incontinence Pads play music? I am further behind the times than I thought.
