'The Advanced Search'

Hi there,
I have always, in order to avoid asking a repetitive question, checked my question in the 'advanced search' area. But it's been a while I fail to find any related topic, even the posts I'd sent earlier! I used to do the same and retrieve a lot of old posts, but there seems to be a problem, or maybe I don't know how to do it correctly. Sometimes I have to google a combination of words I remember from that post, or I think might've been used in one once before. I'd appreciate any help.

Could you give an example of a search you made and what you were hoping to find? Thanks

I think I can see partly what the OP was having trouble with. Here's an example:

In the last 5 minutes, I posted a reply containing the line "There were less people at the match than I expected". I just went to the Advanced Search function and asked it to search all posts for the keywords "people", "match" and "expected". After 13 seconds, it gave me a few pages of results dating from 2008 to March 2013 but absolutely no sign of the post I had just made.

If that's not how it's supposed to work, then I'm not sure what I was meant to do with it.

I'm not sure what happened exactly, but a few minutes ago I did the same search I'd done before starting this thread and hopefully found the right posts! I was looking up 'convince vs persuade' and now it seems to be working well, or maybe I'd made a mistake the first time! I feel sorry for the inconvenience I've caused!
