CELTA Application task
Hello all!
I am new here and am going to apply for a CELTA course in Germany.
My mother tongue is Russian, but I studied English for some years in Russia. It seems that my language awareness is not good enough to do the CELTA assignment correctly. I would appreciate any help greatly.
The task is as follows:
Which of the items in each group is different from the others and in what way?
A to need
B to show
C to bring
D to open
At first I thought that (A) is the odd one out because it can be used as a modal verb and in this case the Infinitive after it is used without to. But now I am not sure.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Could it be d)?
They opened the shop at 9am.
The shop opened at 9am. (Ergative verb)

Tdol, thank you for your answer. Are you sure? 2 members have confirmed my answer with a) need.(in the other thread).
But your answer is also logical. I have no idea. But need is the first what occurred to me.
