Default competency-based approach

Hi all!
i'm an english teacher from Morocco and would like to discuss the issue of competency-based approach with teachers from all over the world.
So what do u think about this approach while planning your lesson?
Is it useful and practical to work with competencies ?
How can we apply this approach effectively in our classrooms as teachers of
ESL.
THANK YOU ALL
