Using a dictionary-is it mandatory?
Hi. I'm a teacher in Isreal.
i wanted to discuss the question of usin a dictionary in the classroom
Sinca my student are with special needs (emotional problems) I help them traslate word and don't always insist on looking them up in the dictionary.
I know it's important to practice this skill , on the one hand, but on the other, they won't use is when they'll shop abroad ( they'll probable ask someone's help).
what all of you' enslish teachers say or do about it?
waiting for your opinions and advices.
thanks, Karin.

Welcome to the forums.
With special need students, you are probably sensible not to insist on always looking up a word in a dictionary. It will be interesting to see what others think is the best thing to do.
I am moving your post to Teaching English, where you may get more response.
