Default What is functional grammar

Hi
I am an elementary teacher taking an ESL course. I am wondering if anyone can explain to me what Halliday's Funtional Grammar is.My text book mentions it, but it does not explain exactly what it is. I have to answer a question on the merits of teaching using Functional Grammar.
Please help.

Default Re: What is functional grammar

Functional Grammar is a model of grammar motivated by functions. FG places great importance on functional relations in the organization of grammar and as such it is the theory of the organization of natural language.
