Problems with understanding the text. Please help.
Hello,
I'm not English and I need you to help me understand the following text:
O lamentable ruins of the ill-fated Nicosia, still moist with the blood of your valorous and unfortunate defenders! Were you capable of feeling, we might jointly bewail our disasters in this solitude, and perhaps find some relief for our sorrows in mutually declaring them. A hope may remain that your dismantled towers may rise again, though not for so just a defence as that in which they fell.
The text comes from "The generous lover' by Miguel de Cervantes and I am especially interested in the extract: 'though not for so just a defence as that in which they fell'. What does it refer to?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Problems with understanding the text. Please help.
First, I would just like to say that you are reading a book by a Spanish author who lived 400 years ago. Even most native speakers of English would have great difficulty wading through this translation of his work. If you are reading such books to learn English, you are really doing it the hard way!
To answer your question, I believe the author is saying a hope remains that the towers of the city may rise again, though not for the reasons for which they were originally built (the defense of the city).

Thanks for your reply.
Actually, I am not reading this book. I am reading an article which quotes this short extract from that book by Cervantes. I need to understand it because I must translate the whole article into Polish :)
Once again, thanks for your help.
