This is a great toy to play with: Text Content Analyser - UsingEnglish.com

http://www.usingenglish.com/forum/te...-analyser.html is a discussion of an example I made for a 1:1 lesson with an advanced student (which is attached to the opening post).

Thumbs up Re: Text analysis - basis

I am a new participant in this forum. I would like to ask a question and I need your help to answer and explain it?
Which method, theory or approach could the analyst adopt to analyze the English legal source text and its translation? Which methodology might help the analyst to analyze English legal texts such as contract, treaty or…?

I would suggest the grammar-translation method. Notice that the grammatical structures, legal terminology, and the standard equivalents of legal texts must be observed meticulously.

For example, you have to find the established equivalent of the term “abrogation” in your mother tongue and avoid using other possible synonyms. I think “ILQA” is an acceptable translation for “abrogation” in Arabic. Is it?

Legal language can cause many problems, so being flexible and adapting to suit the students' needs at a particular stage might work. It can be very difficult to extract the meaning and may require several re-readings.
