    Default Present perfect progressive

    Hello everyone,

Which of the following sentences is more natural?

    1.) I'm very hungry. I haven't eaten all day.
2.) I'm very hungry. I haven't been eating all day.

3.) Our kitchen's a mess. We haven't done cleaning for weeks.
4.) Our kitchen's a mess. We haven't been doing cleaning for weeks.

I would say that (2) and (4) are correct because it refers to the duration (all day, for weeks)
But the answers of the exercises were (1) and (4). WHY

    Best regards,
    Dany

    (1) and (3) are correct because we are not concerned with duration, we are interested only in whether or not we have eaten and cleaned-- the accomplished or unaccomplished fact.

Actually, (3) is not very good either-- it should read 'Our kitchen's a mess. We haven't cleaned / done any cleaning for weeks.'
