    Default VERB PARENTHESES

    A: There is any rules or trick to identify this verb? For examlpe sentences below, The answers I choose are the one in BOLD.

    1. Business contacts and financial backing (is, are) all that I need to establish my career as a dress designer.

    2. One head of lettuce in most of the stores in our area now (costs, cost) almost a dollar.


    B: Can you give me an example of the THESIS STATEMENT with this sentences

    2. Work

    You have to identify the subject first to be able to choose the correct verb form.

    In s1, the S is Business contacts and financial backing(plural they), while in s2, it is head (singular it).

    1.'Business contacts and financial backing are...' There are two things, so it is the plural 'are' that you need.
    2. 'One head of lettuce' = it = third person singular. So 'costs' is correct.
