- For Teachers
Here's the question that was put on the tests to enter higher educational institutions (colleges, universities) of Uzbekistan in 2008
Choose the answer which correctly completes the sentence.
Vicky: I'm so hungry. I haven't eaten all day.
Daniel: ... . I didn't have time for breakfast
A) I didn't either
B) I too
C) So am I
D) Neither have I
P.S: I incline to choose two answers C and D. But in our case there must be one correct answer. Is the question incorrect or am I getting dull?
As a native speaker, the only one I would choose is C).
Daniel is commenting on Vicky's first statement..........
"I'm so hungry."
"So am I."
Ignore the follow-up remarks: they're just there to confuse you.
Having said that, I agree it's a terrible question and a very unfair one.
As you say, D) would also be acceptable as this responds to Vicky's comment about not having eaten all day.
Although old-fashioned, it would also be acceptable to respond "I too" (am hungry)!
All in all, an awful question.
