    Unhappy culture points

I've read a conversation in an intermediate american hotline, and there is a culture point ( i think so) i wonder if my thinking is good or not. the situation is some guys are waiting a girl who has just arrived at the airport and one says that " ....She still has to go through immigration, get her bags, and clear customs. She won't be out for ages"
Does " go through immigration" mean: the girl has to be checked passports, visa, or some sorts of personal papers at where ( i dont know)
    and
Does " clear customs" mean: she has to learn some customs ( or the laws??) of the country she approaches.

Tx for any help from u

Hello, if one goes to another country, his/her passport has to be checked by customs officers at a special counter both upon departure and aon arrival at airport in order to make sure the traveller holds a valid visa to leave or arrive.
To clear the customs means to have one's visa checked and approved when landing on the soil of a foreign country.

"She still has to go through immigration, get her bags, and clear customs. She won't be out for ages"

"She still has to go through immigration..." She has to have her passport and visa checked and stamped at the immigration desk.

"Clear customs" means that she has to have her luggage checked by customs officers, to make sure she is not carrying anything illegal.
