If you hang fire on something, you adopt a "wait and see "attitude towards a problem.
"We'd like to launch a new mobile phone, but we'll hang fire on that till we see what Soney bring out."
"What shall we have for lunch?"
"We'll hang fire on that till we know who's coming."
