    "bathroom scale" and "bathroom scales"

    Hello

    bathroom scale (US)
    bathroom scales (Brit)

Is the thing next to the bath mat called a bathroom scale in AE? And is the device called bathroom scales in BE?

    Thank you.

Re: "bathroom scale" and "bathroom scales"

    Hello Daruma,

I am 'The French' I am not a teacher but I confirm you this device is writting without 's' in US. It is the evolution of the word with the time, albeit you can consider the UK writting it's the origin of the word.

    Have a nice day.

As for the Br Eng version, the final 's' comes from a device with two pans - http://ux.brookdalecc.edu/fac/socsci...f_justice2.jpg . As so often , the word reflects an old technology (like phones being 'off the hook', or the 'Return' key on a computer keyboard - which reflects the carriage return on a manual typewriter).

Re: "bathroom scale" and "bathroom scales"

    - A set of bathroom scales, two sets of bathroom scales, three sets of bathroom scales ...
    - A pair of bathroom scales, two pairs of bathroom scales, three pairs of bathroom scales ...

Are both correct in British English?

    No, not "pair(s)".

In American English it is most certainly "scale", not "scales".

The other vocabulary words indicated as American English in this picture are also accurate.
