Question the mother of all “dead horse” topics

Leaving aside the whole point that very few people in the Chinese government understand, are willing to understand, or even want to understand how the media actually functions outside of PRC…the mother of all “dead horse” topics…There is this blissful piece of ineffable twaddle:
What does the mother of all dead horse topics mean? Thanks.

Re: the mother of all “dead horse” topics

We need more context to be sure how it is meant. "Dead horse" means futility, as in "flogging a dead horse" means you can't hit a dead horse to make him move. "Mother of all" is an arabic phrase made popular by Saddam Hussein when he promised Bush "the mother of all battles". So your phrase means the maximum of futility (in trying to get the Chinese government to understand Western media).
