    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am on the right track by the interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

    In India the cow is a sacred animal.
    In Africa the snake is still sacred with many tribes.
    Nothing is sacred to them.
    Nothing is sacred to these wild youths; they respect nothing.
    The bold young governor had no respect for the state's sacred cows.
    Smit with the love of sacred song. (Milton)
    It's my sacred duty to do this.
    The shrines were sacred to them.
    sacred = related to religion, holy
    Such neighbor nearness to our sacred [royal] blood should nothing privilege him.
    sacred = designated or exalted by a divine sanction; possessing the highest title to obedience, honor, reverence, or veneration
    Secrets of marriage still are sacred held.
    sacred = hence, not to be profaned or violated; inviolable.
    A monument sacred to the memory of unknown soldiers.
    This city was to have a theater sacred to Shakespeare.
    sacred = devoted to
    Don’t trouble about things that don’t concern you!
    He is said to have been concerned in the crime. (to have some bad connection with it)
    It is on record that the summer was wetters for 50 years.
    This was the coldest day on record.
    tt is on record = it is published, record = register
    What the President said at his press conference was off the record.
    off the record = out of publication or for recording
    Our museums are full of records of past history.
    record = something that provides evidence or information
    We have to set the record straight.
    to set the record straight = to correct the misunderstanding
    He has been in jail and has a police record.
    This airline’s safety record is impeccable.
    She has a distinguished record as a public official.
    There are his statements for the record.
    for the record = go on record = embrace a position publicly
    He embraced the diplomatic career at his youth.
    embrace = begin
    The newspapers recorded that a new era in international cooperation had begun.
    What I suffered then, and still suffer, is not for pen to write or paper to record.
