In the 1960s in England TV rental was very common and there were TV rental shops in almost every town, at that time my father was a regional manager for a tv rental company.

I don't suppose so, if you mean "TV sets only."

I don't think such stores would be called "electronics" stores, but "appliance stores' sold TVs, radios, clocks, and other small household electrical appliances.

In other cases, TVs might have been carried by stores that sold "large appliances" -- refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, etc.

And some large department stores sold both large and small appliances. Sears is an example of this type.

"Sozio" is the name of a group of appliance stores in Boston -- founded in 1949 and continuing until today. Here's their website, with a picture of their Cambridge (Massachusetts) store (not far from Harvard University and MIT) that is interesting because of the 50's look of the building.

I don't know what the "casual dining" tag means -- I guess they have installed restaurants above their appliance showrooms
