I Knew

Are these correct? If not, why?

What do they mean?
1. I knew the right turner has the right of way. (If 'right of way' is a fact, 'has' is okay here right?)
2. I knew the right turner had the right of way.

Re: I Knew

Cassy:

Just a question The fact that the right turner has the right of way is a thing the doesn't change. I don't exactly know how to pose the question but:

I knew that gravity pulls things towards the center of the earth

Sounds right to my ears. Gravity does that and if I say I knew... pulled, it gives the impression that it no longer does... I think maybe both are right, depending on context. What do you reckon?

Thank you.

Re: I Knew

I reckon that's a good point. Mind you, there's a difference between a general fact (gravity) and an event (at the time, while driving, I knew. . . ).

Re: I Knew

That's pretty much what I meant, though it seems I didn't put it as clear... Isn't having the right of way a general fact, i.e. within a given country or a specific region?

the right turner?

Maybe this is regional but I have never heard that term before.
