    Default connect with

    Does this sentence make sense?

Sport connects with people regardless of gender, race, age and social or economic background.

    Thanks.

Absolutely this sentence makes perfect sense. You might be wondering with the usage of "connects", its not the physical connection they are referring to, instead they are indicating at a mental connection, sports is viewed/liked/appreciated by people of age groups, all races, genders and social and economic background.

People with differences in gender, race, age and social or economic background, can still be similar in being a fans and followers of same sport. Thus it connects them.

I don't think the idea is that sports connects its fans to one another.

I think the idea is that sports "resonates" with all kinds of people -- it "connects" with something deep inside each person.

In the US, the word would always be "sportS"

Yes, the idea is primarily based on Sports connecting to all kinds of People.
The other one is perhaps my own assumption or derivation, however you cannot still completely rule out that possiblity along with the first, as sports actually does that...

How can it always be "sports" ??

Do you say this in US..?

    Football is a sports.
    or
    Football is a sport.

    We follow the same sport.
    or
    We follow the same sports.

    ??

I think it would be better to distinguish between "sport" and "sports" because the two words can imply different things. For example, "I do a lot of sport" means I exercise a lot. "I do a lot of sports," on the other hand, means that I do a lot of different sporting activities.

    You got me there! LOL!

Very good point that I didn't consider.

I retract that comment about "sportS!"

When it comes to this example:

    Football is a sports.
    or
    Football is a sport.

    I MEANT to say
    "Football is a bore."

    I regret the error.

    LOL!

Would the sentence be correct without "and"? Microsoft Word tells me that it wouldn't.

Sport connects with people regardless of gender, race, age, social or economic background.

No, you need "and". The sentence doesn't sound complete without it.

Do you think this play on words works?

Sport speaks to people regardless of sex, race, age, religion and social or economic background—it is a universal language.

    Thanks.
