    I wonder if there is any difference between "1" and '2".
    If no, which is more polite?
    1. You were supposed to be here an hour ago.
    2. You should have been here an hour ago.

    In this case, they are pretty much the same. Smeone is being admonished for their mistake.

    'be supposed to' is more indirect because it can entail that the speaker is relating the advice/admonishments from sme higher authority.
