    sociolinguistics..help me

    help me teachers and professors

I have question and I should write an essay from 2000 words about it

    it is related to sociolinguistics

    this is the question:
Our speech provides clues to others about who we are, where we come from, and perhaps what kind of social experiences we have had.

so how can I solve it??

What information of this sort can we learn from, someone's speech? In English, you can get information about where they come from often enough as there are national and regional variants. How marked such differences in your language? Which language[s] are you going to use?

In British English, for example, some people pronounce path /pæθ/ and others use a longer vowel /pɑ:θ/. The longer vowel sound is associated with traditional Received Pronunciation and is the form taught in many private schools, so the way you pronounce such vowels can give listeners some information that would suggest things about your class, your education, etc.

If you cannot see the phonetics symbols in your browser, the first is like the vowel sound in sat and the second is like the sound of the word are.

the way you speak is related to many things.that is, people from different classes of society have different ways of expressing themselves.for example their accent, the kind of words they use(e.g slangs or formal words)is different from one person to another.and this is more distinguishable among people from different places.

hi. as u might notice that people from different social, ethnic, regional, religous or even scientific or educational backgrounds can be recognised by the way they speak. sometimes even within the same social group u can notice phonetic or lexical differences due to age or the kind of work people do. surely u can see that there is a difference in the speeech utterances within the kuwati society wherethere people in the urban areas speak differently from those who are in the rural ones. sunni muslims use vocably that shiette people don't use. it is really a very complicated topic that needs hundreds of pages to write about cose all these factors are greatly overlaping with each other. u are supposed to give a general theoritical study about sociolinguistics, talking what is it and what does it study. good luck hope this helped a little.
