    Exclamation participial construction

    Hello there.

He was having a shower, singing loudly.
Shutting the door, she began to cry.

Are these styles(the underlined) not used in everyday conversation?
I mean they are quite formal?

They just don't sound like everyday conversation, Gchman. The second sounds like it comes from a book, a novel.

She shut the door and I could hear her crying.

I came into the house and he was having a shower, singing away/singing at the top of his voice/pounding out a tune/tune after tune.
