Question Single Verb vs Phrasal Verb

I always had a doubt by when using single verb or phrasal verb, most say that phrasal verbs are normally used in ordinary conversation istead of the simple one, for ex.:
** Distribute something,...... / or ** Hand something out,.......

Re: Single Verb vs Phrasal Verb

The best advice is to treat pv's like any other item of vocabulary. Check with your dictionary the meaning and whether they are informal/colloquial or formal. It is a fallacy that in formal contexts we should avoid them.
