Yesterday while coming to work I met with an accident.

    Or

Yesterday while coming to work I had an accident.

I heard the phrase met with an accident. It's just not North American English. I cannot comment further though as I am not a British English speaker.

Where have you read "met with an accident"?
Its very common amongst Indian Speakers, they use the phrase "met with an accident", however somebody told me that its incorrect and its an Indianism.
