    Post Correct pronunciation of "OF"

    Hi,

What is the correct pronunciation of "OF"?

...it has unvoiced /f/ sound at the end or a voiced /v/ sound at the end??

    Thanks

I have always pronounced and teached it with a final /v/ sound, contraposing to off which as a final /f/ sound. I would like to read the native speakers on this important point to confirm it (or not).

Note that the vowels are not the same.

    Re: Correct pronunciation of "OF"

I wrote "of" above (of and above rime). In off, we have either /af/ (AmE) or /ɒf/ (BrE and most Commonwealth areas.)

In British English and even in some parts of US the vowel sound ( ) for both "OF" and "OFF" are same, am I correct?

    Re: Correct pronunciation of "OF"

Perhaps in some BrE dialects, I know only 2 of the many. I haven't heard anything other than /ʌv/ in RP or AmE.

    Re: Correct pronunciation of "OF"

Most commonly heard are: ə,əv, əf

ɑv, ɑf are heard when rhythm demands. JC Wells call it buttressing.
