    Default Verb + -ing

    Hello!

In the Listening Module of the IELTS Test you come across audio topics: Lectures, Conversations, etc. Usually, these topics are presented in the British and Australian accents.
Hence, you are suggested to get conversant with these accents well before you take the test.

As I learnt, after suggest we have to use a verb ending on -ing. Is that rule isn't extended on (right?) a passive structure?

    Thank you in advance!

This is a badly constructed sentence, it should read: "It is suggested that you become conversant with these accents..."
